If yes, you are invited to join this professional learning opportunity: CCESSA ARTS PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITY ON ELEMENTARY ARTS ASSESSMENT The California Arts Education Task Force developed key recommendations for moving arts education forward in our state.
Recommendation Six suggests that the state encourage district assessment of student learning in the arts. CCSESA continues to investigate a wide range of assessment practices to build a foundation for quality learning in each of the four disciplines of dance, music, theatre, and visual arts.
Goals for the Professional Learning Community To provide professional development across the state that results in standards-based arts education and creates BEST PRACTCE EXAMPLES of classroom arts assessment that will both inform and inspire California students, teachers and the public.
Overview Region, county, district, and school leaders will participate in a learning community to work through techniques and processes for providing professional development for their learning community. Participants will receive a wide range of information including an overview of arts assessment (power point), examples of embedded assessment, principles of assessment, documentation template and handouts, pilots of assessment, and how to collect, score, and reflect on student work. Participants will be asked to convene a group (or cohort) in their respective education community or participate in another regional, county, or district cohort. Using the knowledge learned and shared in the professional community, participants will be prepared to develop and pilot standards-based arts assessments that are embedded in ongoing classroom instruction at the elementary level. Sessions 4 and 5 will include an opportunity to share results and best practices, celebrating work from across California.
